If you're looking for family insurance with good medical coverage in Virginia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Texas, or Arkansas, you can expect superior service and a solid family insurance plan from UniCare Health Insurance. UniCare Health Insurance is proud of its strict compliance with the National Association of Health Underwriters' code of ethics, which you can access on their website. The company also displays the approval logo of the Better Business Bureau. Its parent company is Well Point, a licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.

    • UniCare Health Insurance styles its plan benefits and pricing to fit all sizes of families. For example, if you choose a low deductible, you won't be responsible for many of your costs, because with UniCare Health Insurance plans you only pay the deductible for two family members. You'll also know up front pretty much what your health care costs will be. If you're in the $500 deductible plan, even if there are four people in your family, once you've paid the deductible for two family member--$1,000-you've satisfied the family deductible for the entire benefit year. You reach the out-of-pocket limit when you've spent $3,000 per individual or $6,000 per family. The same benefits apply to the $1,000 deductible plan.

    • If you have four or less office visits during your benefit year, your deductible will be waived, and you will be responsible for just a $30 co-pay. Think of how much you'll save with family insurance like that if you manage to remain relatively healthy! Once you hit five or more office visits, you've got to satisfy the deductible, and you're also responsible for a 20% co-pay.

    • Preventive care maxes out at $200 per member during the benefit year. But this type of family insurance includes baby immunizations or Pap smears, flu shots or even routine cancer-screening tests such as mammograms or colonoscopies-something for everyone! Pretty much everything else is reimbursed at 80%, as long as you stay within the provider network. If you go to doctors or facilities that are not in network, UniCare Health Insurance coverage drops to 60%.

    • When you're signing up for family insurance, you've got to sit down and take a moment to think about your family members' health needs. How many of them are in good health? How many are at the accident-prone, run-and-tumble stage? And you must also consider the choices of deductibles: Mid-range plans with deductibles ranging from $1,500, $2,000, $3,000, and $5,000 with the four office visits, with extra visits charged against the deductible and paid at 70%, and most other ancillary services payable at 70%.

    • For the person who really wants to curb their premium, there's the Saver 2000 family insurance plan with its $2,000 deductible. You are limited to two office visits, but you can choose providers in or out of network. Preventive services and routine care are not covered. Ancillary services are paid at 70%, and some services such as lab work or x-rays are limited to $300 maximum benefit per member.

    • Does someone in your family take a lot of medications? With all of the plans, your responsibility is $10 for generic drugs and $25 for brand name. A deductible equal to 10% of your medical benefits deductible applies if you are signed up with a deductible plan.
